|Tip 17 "Cleaning of brass/copper parts"
Old and dirty brass/copper parts, such as brass filigrees, could only be soldered after cleaning thoroughly; that is, removing oxidized layer on the surface. It may be cleaned by rubbing with sand paper. However, it is not so easy to clean with sand paper if brass filigrees have complicated shapes or the volume is large. It can be cleaned by dipping in acid. However, acid is not usually kept in ordinary household. You can use toilet cleaner (weak acid type) instead. Pour the liquid in a soucer and dip parts in it. After dipping 10 to 30 minutes, by observing the actual status of dirt, remove them and clean with running water thoroughly.
